Back too it.....

So its time to start module 2.

Task 4a is asking us to create lines of enquiry based on our professions, to think about questions we can investigate further that will expand our knowledge and carry through to benefit our future.

This degree so far has brought to light the constant battle i have regards to being a teacher and also a performer. Although they are both with in the dancing field they are very different at the same time, so creating questions to investigate further is a task in its self when it comes to deciding which career to base them on. I started by separating the two careers and thinking of ideas for both.

Self performing ideas:

- Is our talent or our looks more important in today's industry?
- How does a performer maintain confidence after leaving full time training?
- How does a performer deal with the uncertainty of our industry?

Teaching ideas:

- How is it different teaching older advanced pupils, to primary aged children?
- When as a teacher do you intervene with possible home issues?
- How do you decide which is the correct conduct of behaviour management?
- What is different about teaching in a school school environment to a social environment?

After considering both options i decided to go with the ideas most relevant to my every day current profession which is teaching. I am also doing the BAPP arts course to enable me to further my teaching career so i can teach at a higher level (GCSE, A level. Post 16.) So these lines of enquiry will benefit me and expand my knowledge for future projects.

I also found that the questions relating to teaching are more likely to get more factual and relevant answers than the performing questions.

Any thoughts then please share, have a made the right decision?

  1. i think teaching is the right one for you lydia, as performing is still a part of your life you are teaching on a regular basis so would be able to expand further on it hope this helped :)

  2. Hello Lydia,

I think that the line of enquiry regarding to teaching in the education has many different lines to discover i believe that performing arts is extremely important to children when growing up as it builds confidence and many other life skills and it is also very rewarding ! i have set up a sig group relating to performing arts in education if you would like to be part of http://eleanorduignan.blogspot.co.uk/2017/02/4b-special-interest-group.html

i love your though on the idea of when does a teacher intervene with possible home issues. this is such a big part of a teachers role now not just teaching lessons but also been there for a child when they need someone to speak to if they are worried about a certain aspect of home life and i believe this aspect is such an important part of school life these days !

  3. Hi Lydia :) I love your ideas on how do different aged pupils learn different, I have also been looking into ideas of how we learn across all ages! Module 1 introduced some of those ideas to me! I also think your inquiry idea about when a teacher should intervene is such an interesting one! I'd be interested to see if you went with that and got some answers!! I'll be setting up a similar sig to Eleanor's if you want to join :) keep an eye on my blog posts :) p.s hope you are well! Long time no speak!

  4. Hi Lydia - you now need to look up literature - so sources abut your ideas - to see what others have said and see how your might add to that body of knowledge. Interesting to blog these. Did you want to focus on older pupils?

As an exploration - the inquiry can look at ideas and reality -context - but as we tend not to do research with or on children - it is your practice that is the focus. So you might want to reframe the teaching questions in this light - the last one about social and school begins to do that. You could talk about how pupils learn at different ages in relation to your work.

As a form of action learning https://rapidbi.com/action-learning-sets/ - you can also think abut how the learning and research helps your role or organisation - as you said the future in teaching...

A few more blogs please to gauge the scope of your inquiry?
